We want you to go to a local park. Take your compass, magnet, and journal with you. When you arrive, follow the directions:
1. Grab your compass. Choose an object that aligns with Physical True North and is between 20-30 feet away.

2. Here are the components of your compass you need to know:

3. Hold your compass flat on your hand. Allow the compass needle to align with Physical True North.
4. Turn the whole compass until the needle aligns with the black line at the top of your compass and the object you chose.

5. Open your journal to where you drew the graph from your calibration discussion.
6. For each magnet you identified and listed on your compass graph, turn the dial two degrees away from Physical True North (Make sure you and your dad turn the dial in different directions, so you don't run into each other).

7. Align your body with the dial. Not the Needle! Take ten steps forward.

8. How far away are you from Physical True North? (Use the object you aligned with to see how far off you are.)
9. Take ten more steps.
10. How far away are you from Physical True North? (Use the object you aligned with to see how far off you are.)
11. Take ten more steps.
12. How far away are you from Physical True North? What would happen if you had continued on that False True North? Would you ever reach your chosen object, your "True Destination"?
13. Find a place to sit, and continue with the Mini-Adventure Discussion.
