Adventure Information

On the Advanced Adventure, fathers and sons will…

  • Discover their life stories in new ways. Understanding our stories is a key element of crafting a vision for purposeful Christian living. When we dive into our stories with God, He gives us glimpses into our identity, mission, and purpose. These glimpses illuminate insights into the path God is leading us on. How God created us is like a gem we must dig for. On the Advanced Adventure, we're going to step into just that.

  • Step into Grand Adventure! On the trip to Montana, participants will white water raft on the Clark Fork river, fly-fish the trout in the North Burnt Fork Creek that runs right through our Cherutt Ranch, and hike to heights, where the only sounds are the pure noises of the Bitterroot National Forest.

  • Forge custom knives together, led by Forged in Fire Champions Billy and Jojo Slayers. During their time of forging, they will get their hands dirty and burned, but when the process is done, father and sons will walk away with two distinct knives they forged together. These knives are functional blades that will last them a lifetime. While they forge, the Salyers will discuss how the knife-making process reflects our life with God and invitation to be Redeemed Steel.

  • Hear from guest speakers who are seasoned teachers and mentors, so you know you are learning about identity, mission, and purpose from men who “walk the talk.” Featured guest speakers include Gary Barkalow of The Noble Heart and Billy and Jojo Salyers of Redeemed Steel and Yellow Rose Forge.

Advanced Topics Include:

  • Identity - Who am I?

  • Mission & Purpose - Why am I here? What is a calling? What is a God-given glory?

  • Community - Where do I belong? How do I engage with God, my family, peers, friends, or significant other in this stage of life? What does healthy community look like? How do I build it where I am at?

  • Code - How do I live out my identity, mission, and purpose daily (at school, with my significant other, at work, etc.)? What does it look like to live from my glory? What rhythms must I keep/cultivate as I move out of the adventure?

Additional Opportunity: Turn your adventure into a journey...

This additional offering is not mandatory, but we've found the best Montana experiences actually begin at home. If you opt to turn your adventure into a journey, you will engage in relational rhythms with your father or son that begin laying a foundation for our discussions in Montana. You will:
  • Walk together before and after your trip to Montana, so you have the time you need to establish a new way of life together. We don’t want this just to be a cool experience you did once. We want to help you and your boy cultivate and deepen your relationships.

  • Practice realistic relational rhythms that work for your son’s current stage of life so that you can deepen your relationship with each other and God during and beyond the Advanced. Between studying, career goals, and significant others, it can be challenging to find time to connect. The rhythms we offer leave room for you to implement them in a way that works for your son’s stage of life.

  • Lay a foundation for our discussion to Montana. The materials father and sons go through together provide a strong foundational understanding of what we will be discussing in Montana. Through books and relational rhythms, you will already have a strong idea of the topics we will discuss and what it means to live a purposeful life rooted in God's Greater Story.
