The Most Important Thing…

Sometimes we get the most basic things dead wrong…We so often believe the most important thing about us is what we “do.” What is one of the first questions we typically ask each other?
“What do you do?”
It’s the most common way we identify who we are, our worth, status, or value. However, in contrast, a quick look at Jesus’s life reveals that, before we declare our mission, we must address one unmistakable and absolutely critical area: OUR IDENTITY.
Luke 3:21-22 Now when all the people were baptized, and when Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, the heavens were opened, and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form, like a dove; and a voice came from heaven, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.”
We must understand something critical here…Jesus did not declare his mission from Isaiah 61 until AFTER he was firm in his identity as a son (see Luke 4). The baptism and affirmation from his Father comes BEFORE he declares his mission! So we must emulate this order, and never forget from where we should calibrate our journey.
“IDENTITY rooted in being a SON, lived out through CODE, in COMMUNITY with others make God’s MISSION for our lives possible.”
